Regular exercise can be preventative medicine for a host of sedentary-lifestyle relatedmaladies such as metabolic syndrome and all-cause cardiovascular mortality. A widely practiced alternative style of exercise referred to as Hatha Yoga cultivated ages ago in India thrives today within many cultures, improving its participants’ physical, psychological, and emotional health via physical postures (asana), conscious breath work, and meditation. This study explored the potency of online educating through utilizing synchronous, asynchronous, and mixed approaches. An 8-week yoga program was designed to steadily progress a novice individual’s ability to hold poses, perform strength work, and improve cardiovascular fitness. Recorded exercise performance video illustrated progression within poses and strength exercises. Resting heart rate was tracked to evaluate post-training increases in vagal tone, reflective of cardiovascular fitness improvements. The data was analyzed to reveal outliers or patterns of improvement. Results demonstrated that the mixed approach was most successful whereas asynchronous was least effective.
